Symplified CTO to Discuss Access Management for Cloud Computing

Symplified, the On-Demand Identity company, today announced that founder and CTO Darren Platt will present a session on Identity Management in the Clouds at the Open Group Conference for Security Practitioners in San Diego on February 5. Mr. Platt was invited to discuss the challenges associated with extending enterprise security infrastructures to the cloud to centralize access control, authentication, and audit over Software as a Service (SaaS) applications.

He will present a new model called On-Demand Identity and explain how it works, including how it integrates with directories, databases, applications, and negotiates firewalls. Mr. Platt is a recognized expert on identity management, and co-authored the AuthXML specification, which was the precursor to the SAML identity federation standard.

Identity Management in Clouds

As organizations turn to Software as a Service as a way to reduce IT costs, they must address complex security and compliance challenges created when users access confidential applications and data that reside outside the firewall and are managed by 3rd party providers. This situation is driving the need for a new security model.

Fortunately a new approach – On-Demand Identity – has emerged that makes identity and access management for SaaS achievable for businesses of all sizes. Mr. Platt will explain how the On-Demand Identity model works, including how authentication, single sign-on, federation, auditing, compliance and administration for SaaS can be integrated with behind the firewall security infrastructures.

“The use of cloud-based applications is creating security and audit challenges that few organizations anticipated,” said Darren Platt, founder and CTO of Symplified. “I will explain a new approach to managing identity and access for Software as a Service applications that reside outside the firewall.”

Session Details

Mr. Platt will present on Thursday, February 5 at 9:00 AM at the San Diego Marriott Mission Valley. For conference information please visit: http://www.opengroup.org/sandiego2009-spc/platt.html.
